Those dreadful excuses!Author: Lisa Phillips
Do you have an area of your life that you feel powerless to create success? Have you created success in other areas of your life but have one area that seems to cause you more issues than any other? If we take some time to examine this area, we will undoubtedly find one or more excuses. These excuses will override your commitment to achieving your goals.
Often we do not realise that we are making an excuse. They tend to be automatic and often do not stop to think about what excuses we are making. We have probably been saying the same excuse or story for most of our lives. We all have a set of excuses and often pretend that they leave us powerless.
Some of our excuses are obvious. These are excuses like ‘I haven't got time' or ‘I am to busy'. Other excuses whisper quietly in our ears like ‘It is not my fault', ‘I need this to happen before I can do my part' or ‘Business is bad everywhere'.
Excuses like these are our escape route that we can rely on when taking the necessary action all becomes too hard. They are literally our attempt to ‘excuse' ourselves from fulfilling our goals and being the responsible, wonderful, powerful people that we are! Excuses give our power over to something or somebody else. They transfer all our inner power over to outer circumstances and tear away our ability to create results. They sabotage our dreams for the future and keep us tied to the past. Our excuses have the ability to destroy our best laid plans and rob us of having a life we love.
Take a few minutes to look back to a time when you achieved something you desired – whether in your personal life or perhaps in your career. You will probably find that you succeeded in this area because you did not allow yourself to use the excuses that you used in the past. The excuses where always around, but you chose not to use them and forged ahead! Whether it was consciously or unconsciously – you made a choice not to use your excuses!
While you may have had time where your progress was delayed or stopped because of your excuses, in the end you remained more committed to your goal or vision rather than you excuses. This is key…..if you have a vision big enough and exciting enough, you will not use excuses to sabotage it. So, break out to that future which inspires you rather than using your old mouldy excuses to keep you stuck.
For this month, I suggest that you take on an area of your life where you are not really making the progress you would really desire. Identify the TOP 5 excuses that you are using which are keeping you stuck. Remind yourself that you have a choice every moment to go for the life you really desire. Take back your power, blast through those excuses and claim the life you truly desire.
Another method is for you to stand in front of your mirror every day and tell your story and excuses to the mirror. I guarantee that within 30 days you will be so over your own stories and excuses that you will want to drop them immediately!
